To Our Tragedy

Video
I’m Too Sad to Tell You”的錄像作品。
In 1971, a Dutch artist, Bas Jan Ader, has recorded himself crying in front of the camera, and named the video, “ I’m Too Sad to Tell You”. Nobody knows what has happened to him, but only the artist himself knows. He put his personal feeling to the public eyes, which people perceive the video as a pure reveal of emotion. In the 20th century, crying scenes nearly become a must in the mainstream movies and dramas. Directors would cut multi montages to explain the reasons behind the sadness. Audiences somehow are rarely exposed to a “pure crying scene”. When those montages were gone, only a boring, long slow-motion shot is left.
